Read on to find out how this can benefit your home and business!
What’s a tune-up?
A tune-up is a maintenance visit from a technician who inspects and makes any necessary repairs to ensure that your air conditioner is functioning properly and won’t cause you any problems down the line. Think of it as an air conditioner physical.
Why are tune-ups important?
Your air conditioner goes through a lot on a daily basis. It sucks up dirt, pollen, debris, and humidity all day every day, and (hopefully!) gifts you with cool, comfortable, conditioned air. Your air conditioner is a hardy and complex machine and it employs the use of many different components to create the product that you enjoy every day. Left unchecked and without tune-ups, your air conditioner, like every other machine, is susceptible to damage and wear and tear.
However, regular tune-ups can help your air conditioner run efficiently for longer, which can not only save you money but also make sure that you and your family are comfortable every day. During a tune-up, a technician will thoroughly clean indoor and outdoor units while inspecting each component to ensure their good health.
When should I get a tune-up?
It’s recommended that you have at least one annual tune-up. However, there are lots to benefit from 2 tune-ups a year, before summer and before winter, to ensure that your system is running smoothly and efficiently before drastic changes in weather. Especially for us here in Texas with temperatures that can wane into the extremes throughout the year, it’s wise to have two tune-ups every year to avoid any potentially expensive repairs that could have been avoided. Likewise, there are some signs that you can look out for that your air conditioner may need a tune-up soon. These can include:
- Energy bills that are higher than normal
- Noticeably reduced airflow
- Indoor temperatures are noticeably higher or unstable
- AC running constantly or flipping off randomly
- Noticeably higher indoor humidity
If you are experiencing any or several of the above, it’s crucial to schedule a tune-up or visit from your technician, as they can be signs of potentially costly repairs that are best-taken care of sooner rather than later.
What’s included in a tune-up?
Routine tune-up service calls will generally follow the same schedule, cleaning and checking all parts of the air conditioner. This includes:
- Opening and cleaning the system
- Checking refrigerant levels and inspecting for any refrigerant leaks
- Checking electric work, making sure that there are no electric hazards
- Securing connections
- Clean and check blowing components
- Inspecting and cleaning the outdoor condenser coil
- Checking and running the capacitor
- Check the indoor evaporator coil and clear blockage if able
- Checking the air filter, replacing or cleaning it if needed
After your air conditioner has been properly serviced, you will receive a summary at the end of the visit where you can see exactly what has been done to your air conditioner. The technician will go over their findings with you to make you aware of any issues and offer recommendations based on their findings.
