How to Organize your Walk In Cooler: Two Important Tips from the Pros

Whether you are storing food, frozen treats, beverages, or even floral arrangements, you can optimize your cooler’s performance with just a few small considerations as you stock products.

Keep Sensitive Products Away From the Door
The areas near the door will experience greater temperature fluctuations as warm air from outside rushes in every time the walk-in door is opened. If the cooler experiences heavy traffic throughout the day, these temperature fluctuations will be more intense.
While your cooler is designed to regulate and maintain a strict interior temperature, cooling down warm air takes time when the doors are continuously opened. Unfortunately, for many of you working in food service, this is necessary for business operations. For this reason, we recommend placing your more sensitive products towards the back of the cooler and nearest to the floor for the most stable temperature conditions.
Maximize Airflow
Allowing adequate airflow throughout the interior of the cooler will help to maintain a more consistent temperature, create less condensation and lower your energy consumption.
Use Cooler Shelving. Cooler shelving is designed with the appropriate gaps to allow the greatest airflow. Never use solid shelving in your walk-in!
Remove Products from Cardboard Boxes. Cardboard can both block airflow and quickly soak up any excess condensation in the cooler, which will make your cooler hang onto humidity and create ideal conditions for mold growth. If you must use solid boxes or bins, avoid storing them together in one area. The more airflow you can create between products, the better your cooler will perform.
Leave Room for the Evaporator Fans. Stacking products too close to the fans will make it difficult for your cooler to work correctly. Products should never be placed in an area where they block the cooler fans.
Don’t Overstock! Overstocking creates airflow problems that will affect your cooler’s performance. An overstocked cooler will struggle to maintain its temperature setting and might even cause more sensitive products to spoil! If you have to place a large order for an event and don’t have the cooler space, we recommend renting a refrigerated trailer instead of overstocking your supplies.
